We will partner with schools or colleges to provide coaching through quality careers advice, enrichment experience and mentoring to people from disadvantaged backgrounds or circumstances.

The simplest approach for businesses to partner with schools is to work through one of the large number of great social mobility organisations - including stimulating BCC members to work through the existing BCC initiatives underway. Others are Speakers for Schools, Inspiring the Future, the Careers and Enterprise Company, Princes Trust, to name a few. The intention here is not to duplicate the great work that is underway and rather to create a campaign and a portal that will push businesses towards social mobility organisations that are doing great stuff and trying to scale up. So many are based primarily in London and the South East but are finding it hard to get traction in the other parts of the country, and some in Opportunity Areas. The MP network working on this within Parliament means this includes a push from the community, ground level to drive interest and gives an ability to do that in a more strategic way. For example if we want more businesses in certain areas, those MPs can work using the pledge to get employers to come forward. This is cross party so will involve MPs from across Parliament as overwhelmingly, all MPs care about this.
